Chapter 76, Parks and Wildlife Code, and the Oyster Management Proclamation, Section 58.21(c)(1), provides for the emergency closure of an area to oyster harvesting when it can be shown that the area is being overworked or damaged. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Oyster Advisory Committee have established criteria for determining area status. Based on these criteria it was determined that TX-19, as depicted on the Texas Department of State Health Services Shellfish Harvesting Area map (MR-1941, November 1, 2025) will be closed to both recreational and commercial oyster harvest effective 12:01 am on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. This area will continue to be monitored by TPWD and will reopen when criteria thresholds are met.
